Deck Box Development: October 2023 Update

Scorched Earth has begun development of a premium Trading Card Game Deck box. Design criteria and intended features are:

• Premium material selection and construction (a selection of hardwood and dovetail joinery)

• Storage of a 100 card, double-sleeved deck

• Storage of 2-3 full sets of Dice

• Storage of one pen/other writing utensil

• Interchangeable inserts to suit a variety of gaming environments

• Lid capable of acting as a dice tray

As of writing, we are in the preliminary design phase. We have a general idea of what the final product will look like, and we are working with various suppliers to put together a prototype. We could dramatically reduce the manufacturing complexity if we were willing to compromise on the joinery… but we’re not. Despite the added complexity, we believe either a box-joint or through-dovetails are the best way to capture the true nature of a fine woodworking piece. Perhaps in the future we will experiment with other interesting joinery like Knapp joints. We expect to refine and finalize the design over the coming weeks, at which point we can establish and scale our value-chain. With any luck we will be able to start taking pre-orders in Q1 2024.
